The Schwimmer
photographic agency, launched in autumn 2013, is currently being
developed. It will show and it will distribute works by visual artists
in the field of photojournalism, promoting a simple approach in a
complex world: what is there behind the façades? What makes our daily
reality working?
Founded and
edited by Sven Eggers, Sibylle Hofter and Malgorzata Plywacka; the
agency has local redactions at Berlin, Sofia, and Shanghai (from May
6th). This autumn will open a new one at Heilbronn in cooperation with a
local newspaper.
Concept
City
Desk Sofia is an Agentur Schwimmer project which aims to create a
collaborative portrait of Sofia’s society and its inner workings without
atomizing topics through “objectivity” but backing them with the
official evidence: the hard facts which determine the volatility of the
private (or group) activities.
This
objective is achieved through the work of photographers (professionals
or not) who are interested in the subject and aim to develop the image
as a freestanding piece but also to give it a place in a larger flux or
dialogue of images; developing visual languages which are beyond our
daily experience.
Our
contemporary reality is over-fed by trillions of data-records usually
named "images". But what are those images? Along the cleavages of the
genres, the photographic image is currently decomposed to certain
schemes according-to and simultaneously-with specific image economies.
Even photo-art tends to decrease in schemes and formal discussion in
order to withdraw from core involvement with the subjects shown. Thus,
the project’s approach is the unrestrained enthusiasm to get to know
more about the community’s mechanics: to uncover the supply chains of
society.
